Deimos posted up an interesting article (Maybank ATM - Be Cautious - Count your notes) about ATM Machine not giving out the correct amount of money for withdrawals. And it’s not an isolated case, but there are a number of cases as mentioned in the article! How does an ATM Machine cheats? Well, looked at the pictures below courtesy of Deimos.
How does this cheat work.

Look at how the “Magic” of making as if 2 notes become 3 notes!

How the hell can this kind of thing happened?
Is this real or urban legend?
Firstly, I would like to ask if this is a real life story or a doctored one? Or just some urban legend? So far, I have heard before the ATM Machine not giving out any money at all when withdrawing money from it due to the ATM running out of money. However, this is the first time I heard something like folding the money to cheat the machine and the people using the machine.
If this is true, then this is really a serious matter and not to be taken lightly.
Questions That Needs To Be Ask (If this is true)
Actually, I am very curious on how the ATM Machines is that unreliable? Aren’t they suppose to be 99.99% correct and tested by the bank and the company that make the ATM Machine? Or did someone found a flaw in the ATM Machine and they are siphoning off money just like that under everyones noses?

What should we do if we are caught in this situation?
Isn’t the most obvious thing do to is to lodged a police report? Then make a complain to the bank concern and also inform Bank Negara. And if possible, inform the Finance Ministry or any other relevant authorities!
This in my opinion is a very serious matter. We shouldn’t take it lightly.
My Opinion
Like I said, if this is a true story, then I think instead of telling people through blogs and emails, one should do more than that. Hightlight it in the press, lodge a police report, write a formal complain letter to Bank Negara, also report this to the Finance Ministry and give the information to the opposition party (assuming they give a damn or hopefully they make a ruckus about it).
However, what if this is false? Then you just wasted several minutes of your time reading this and then going to Deimos’s article to flame him for wasting your time.
Whatever is it, we need to be pro-active in telling the authorities or relevant people about these things if you happened to be one of the victims. We need to show that we Malaysians are not just bunch of cheaters or con artists. Either we do something about it, or just let the cheaters/con-artist get away with it and laughing all the way to the bank (pun intended).
